The Huoxing Finance report states that payment giant Mastercard and the stablecoin infrastructure network Borderless have announced the launch of a pilot project to explore using the Mastercard Crypto Credential standard framework to provide more trustworthy identity verification and compliance support for cross-border stablecoin payments. Both parties stated that the pilot will test how standardized authentication mechanisms can deliver “trust signals” to transaction participants for use in approval, compliance reviews, and risk management, thereby reducing compliance friction in cross-border stablecoin payments. The Mastercard Crypto Credential framework provides identity confirmation and trust assurance for blockchain transactions through unified standards and verification processes. Kevin Lehtiniitty, co-founder and CEO of Borderless, said compliance has long been a major barrier to scaling stablecoin payments, and Mastercard is attempting to apply traditional financial compliance trust models to the digital asset payment space. He noted that Mastercard Crypto Credential will serve as a governance and verification layer in this pilot, but Mastercard will not directly handle or settle funds. This collaboration is the latest move by Mastercard to expand its presence in the stablecoin sector. Previously, Mastercard completed its acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK for approximately $1.8 billion, further strengthening its infrastructure positioning in digital asset payments. In June this year, Mastercard also announced plans to expand its settlement capabilities to support 24/7 card payment settlements via stablecoins, including USDC issued by Circle, PYUSD and USDG issued by Paxos, USDP, and RLUSD issued by Ripple. The market believes that as stablecoins gradually enter cross-border payment scenarios, identity authentication, compliance verification, and risk control infrastructure will become critical components driving institutional adoption.
