The Mars Finance report states that on June 16, Citrini Research, the organization behind the "AI Doomsday Report," published a piece indicating that AMD and Apple are currently advancing solutions to replace DRAM with flash memory in their AI products. AMD has acquired MEXT to optimize flash memory, bringing its performance close to that of DRAM and thereby reducing memory costs in AI data centers; Apple, on the other hand, achieves similar optimizations on-device through its "LLM in a flash" technology. According to Citrini's latest research report, the high memory demand from KV caches in AI inference, coupled with the "memory tax" pressure—where HBM already accounts for 25% of DRAM capacity—has made flash memory an attractive alternative, as its cost is only 1/55 that of DRAM. Through controller optimization, NAND stacking, and cell pattern adjustments, flash memory can provide viable alternatives in terms of capacity and bandwidth for edge AI. This report provides theoretical support for the recent sustained surge in storage stocks, led by SanDisk.
