The European Union is launching a Euro stablecoin, but its own issuers are calling for a dollar stablecoin. Why? 70% of global stablecoin trading is dollar-denominated. Regulatory control does not mean market control.

50,000 Europeans petition EU to reverse MiCA stablecoin reward ban ahead of bloc-level review 🍪 More than 50,000 Europeans have signed a petition urging the European Commission to roll back restrictions on stablecoin rewards as part of the upcoming review of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. The petition, surfaced on October 1, targets a corner of MiCA that has drawn pushback since the rules took effect: limits on yield-bearing or reward-paying stablecoin offerings, introduced to separate euro-denominated e-money tokens from interest-style products. Why it matters on a Friday: • The reward cap sits inside the broader MiCA review now underway, which Brussels opened partly to gauge whether the framework is fit for purpose. • Petition thresholds matter in Europe — once signatures clear the bar, the Commission is expected to engage, even if no policy change is guaranteed. • Stablecoin issuance and euro liquidity are core Euro-area topics; any softening of the rules would directly reshape EU-licensed euro-pegged stablecoin economics. The signatories are asking regulators to allow regulated issuers to offer rewards again, framing them as a user-acquisition tool rather than a deposit substitute. No financial advice. Not legal. #MiCA #Stablecoins #EU #CryptoRegulation

50,000 Europeans are demanding amendments to MiCA rules to ease restrictions on stablecoin rewards—and this is not just a protest, but organized public pressure reshaping the boundaries of regulation. Current restrictions deprive investors of real yields, pushing capital toward more flexible markets. The European Union faces a genuine choice: adapt or lose out.

Europe spent years asking how to regulate crypto. Now the more interesting question is becoming: what exactly are we regulating? ESMA’s latest MiCA proposals reach toward staking, lending, DeFi access, influencer marketing and eventually tokenized capital markets. That tells me MiCA is entering its harder phase. Regulating exchanges and issuers was the obvious part. Regulating a financial world where protocols, creators, interfaces and institutions increasingly overlap is where the real test begins. Europe doesn’t need less regulation. It needs regulation that understands what it is regulating.
