Big news: @a16z just renamed a16z Crypto to @a16zfrontier. Some will read this as "crypto is over." I read it the opposite way. Crypto isn't dying. It's becoming invisible infrastructure. Every great technology goes through this. Nobody calls Google an "internet company" anymore. Nobody says "cloud startup" with a straight face. When the tech works, it stops being the headline and becomes the plumbing. That's where onchain is heading: • Stablecoins moving real money, quietly • AI agents that need wallets, not bank accounts • Ownership and identity built into products by default The next wave won't be "crypto apps." It'll be AI, payments, gaming and consumer products that just happen to run onchain, and users won't even notice. The builders who win will stop selling "crypto" and start selling outcomes. Frontier is the right word. What do you think: a smart rebrand or a quiet retreat?
