Crypto cards exceed 750 million dollars monthly as stablecoins convert to currency at checkout. They enable global payments without bank account. See shift Crypto Stablecoins Can stablecoins change daily payments?

avatar

a16zcrypto reports crypto payment cards have scaled rapidly to $759 million in monthly spend by July 2026, driven largely by stablecoins converted to local fiat at the point of sale. Cards enable spending crypto anywhere traditional networks are accepted without requiring a bank account, using either custodial deposits or self-custody onchain holdings.

Stablecoins are increasingly being spent by card swipe. Crypto payment cards have gone from a novelty to more than $750 million in monthly spend. These cards let people pay with crypto anywhere traditional card networks are accepted. Behind the scenes, the crypto — stablecoins, overwhelmingly — gets converted to local currency at the point of sale, so the payments look like any other card transactions to merchants. Crypto cardholders don’t require a traditional bank account. Depending on the program, users either deposit stablecoins with a card issuer, or hold them directly onchain through self-custody. Crypto cards expand people’s access to U.S. dollar accounts globally, and they offer a convenient way for stablecoin holders to transact.

Will 9 billion people ever use crypto? I say no shot. And I don’t think this is me being bearish on Bitcoin at all. Just realistic on the financial and technical literacy of the world

The biggest stablecoin story isn’t just about how much money is onchain. It’s about what that money can power. $73.3B USDC in circulation. $14.8T in onchain volume. 502M transactions processed by Arc. These numbers show how quickly stablecoins are becoming a serious layer for moving value. Now Arc is entering its next phase. Mainnet is approaching on September 16, with major financial institutions joining as founding validators. This marks a shift from experimentation to real financial infrastructure. Stablecoins are evolving beyond crypto-native payments. They’re becoming rails for a faster, more efficient, always-on financial system. And Arc is building for that future. @arc

SWIFT is no longer standing still. It is actively developing blockchain-based infrastructure for cross-border payments, messaging, interoperability and the coordination of digital-asset settlement. Given SWIFT’s unparalleled penetration across the global banking system, this is a development every investor in the institutional blockchain space should be paying close attention to. Personally, I would be reducing my exposure to projects whose investment thesis significantly overlaps with these use cases, including XRP, HBAR, QNT and similar payment/interoperability-focused networks, until the competitive landscape becomes clearer. The reason is simple: A technically superior solution does not necessarily win when the incumbent already owns the distribution network. This does NOT mean these projects cannot succeed, nor that SWIFT will necessarily replace them. It means their long-term value proposition and potential addressable market deserve to be reassessed as SWIFT evolves from a messaging network into a broader digital-finance infrastructure layer. For me, this changes the risk/reward equation. NFA. DYOR. ⚡️ #XRP #HBAR #QNT #SWIFT
