🚨 BC data center supercluster targeting upwards of 500 MW of hydro-electric powered AI compute capacity
✅ The overall BC supercluster + nationwide rollout represents a major, multi-billion-dollar-scale commitment to Canadian AI competitiveness.
✅ A major initiative to build Canada’s largest sovereign AI compute project. BC data center supercluster targeting upwards of 500 MW of hydro-electric powered AI compute capacity
✅ This HIVE/BUZZ HPC deployment is a significant, concrete step in Bell Canada’s British Columbia Supercluster (part of the broader Bell AI Fabric initiative) and its nationwide sovereign AI infrastructure strategy.
🧠 Cohere has established itself as the premier "sovereign AI" alternative to U.S.-based giants like OpenAI and Anthropic.
“Bell AI Fabric and the BC Supercluster
Bell Canada announced Bell AI Fabric on May 28, 2025, as its major initiative to build Canada’s largest sovereign AI compute project.
It starts with a British Columbia data center supercluster targeting upwards of 500 MW of hydro-electric powered AI compute capacity across six facilities, primarily in Kamloops and Merritt, BC, with expansion to a nationwide network.”
🏆 The Contract Details:
HIVE’s subsidiary BUZZ HPC signed a three-year GPU cloud contract valued at approximately USD $220 million with Bell AI Fabric (Bell Canada) to support Cohere Inc. It involves deploying 2,304 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs configured in GB200 NVL72 rack-scale systems (interconnected with NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand, liquid-cooled, built to NVIDIA reference architecture standards) at Bell’s purpose-built facility in Merritt, British Columbia.
✅Timeline: Expected to go live in late 2026 to early 2027.
✅Revenue impact for HIVE: Adds roughly $70 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), bringing total contracted HPC revenue above $100 million (on top of the current ~$35 million realized ARR).
✅ Funding: Partially from HIVE’s USD $115 million convertible note financing (April 2026).
✅ Partners in the stack:
•Bell Canada: Provides the data center facility, power, and national fibre backbone connectivity.
•BUZZ HPC (HIVE): Operates the sovereign AI cloud and GPU cluster/compute layer.
•Cohere: Supplies enterprise-grade AI foundation models and solutions.
•Hypertec: Handles bespoke GPU server hardware, integration, installation, and support.
