Insiders are manipulating up to 20% of Polymarkets resolutions, according to wall street journal
This is actually good and should be 100% !
The alternative would be way worse
$UMA is a third party oracle that @polymarket uses to vote on market resolution. Voting power is proportional to token held by the voter.
The problem ?
- $UMA market cap is $33M
- the World cup winner market has $2B volume and $367M open interest
This means that In theory the following attack would be entirely possible :
- buy a majority stake in $UMA
- place huge contrarian bets on high volume markets
- force a wrong resolution on these markets with your $UMA voting majority
- walk away with more money that you initially invested
This is why @umadotrocks was created.
They aquired a large part of the $UMA supply and established a voting committee, comprised of some of the biggest traders on the platform, to vote on issues.
This ensures that people voting on @polymarket resolutions stake in the platform and while the may hold shares on some markets they are deciding, there are enough traders on the committee to ensures they are never all on one side
This may not be ideal, but this is a necessary evil
A bandaid fix on a broken system.
I believe Polymarket will soon move to an in house oracle solution when they migrate to a new $POLY chain, but in the meantime, these 20% "insiders" are actually saving our ass from a much bigger potential rug
