🔒 $ZEC Update: NU7 Mainnet Upgrade Locked In for Nov 5

Zcash developers reached unanimous agreement on the roadmap for Network Upgrade 7 (NU7), targeting November 5, 2026 for mainnet activation.

📅 Timeline:

Testnet activation: Oct 6

Final mainnet decision: Oct 20

Mainnet activation: Nov 5

⚙️ What's changing:

Block spacing cut from 75s → 25s (3x faster blocks)

Version 4 transactions disabled

New Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM) to support miner revenue — while preserving the original halving schedule

🗳️ Community backed it hard: 98.9% voted to keep the halving schedule, and 99.9% supported the faster-block proposal.

📈 Momentum is building too — ZEC jumped ~20% in 24h as privacy coins outperformed the broader market, and Zcash spot ETFs pulled in $98.2M in net inflows for the week ending Sept 18, the largest among all 14 tracked crypto products.

Privacy coins are clearly having a moment. 👀

In blockchain space, we have solved ownership, improved speed, and unlocked global access But web3 still has a missing piece, which is PRIVACY I'm not referring to on-chain secrecy or anonymity But privacy with accountability Right now, most blockchains are open by default > every transaction is visible > every wallet can be tracked > every move leaves a permanent trail At first, that felt like transparency Over time, it becomes a risk Because in the real world, full exposure doesn’t work Businesses don’t operate in public ledgers Institutions don’t reveal every transaction People don’t want their financial history open to anyone So, control is important Control over what is shared and with who That's what is currently missing, and that's what unlocks real world adoption So, privacy isn’t optional anymore It’s the layer that makes blockchain usable at scale Adoption may be slow now, but it won’t stay that way With increasing institutional interest in crypto and blockchain tech, privacy will only become more important It’s no longer a question of if It’s a question of when Position early, or watch the shift happen without you.

IMO Ethereum is doing to Zcash and NEAR what it did to Celestia with the rollup-centric roadmap: Stopping them dead in their tracks. The EF’s Kohaku is accelerating privacy solutions on Ethereum, like @TornadoCash, @RAILGUN_Project and @0xprivacypools. I think we’re getting really good at owning narratives before they can become a "threat". The message is this: There’s no need to go anywhere else. Ethereum has you covered across all verticals.

Privacy is slowly becoming a trade-off many people are forced into without fully understanding the long-term consequences. From biometric tracking to AI surveillance and digital identity systems, convenience is increasingly replacing consent. Stronger cybersecurity laws matter, but transparency, user control. and accountability matter even more. Once privacy standards are weakened across payments, communication, and movement, rebuilding public trust becomes far more difficult.

Umbra is the only answer to this, and it isn't close There are two core aspects that make up Railgun: 1. The wallet frontend, where you can swap / transfer privately 2. The SDK, where any EVM project can apply Railgun's privacy features Umbra is comprised in a similar way, where the frontend wallet is available to swap / transfer privately, and shield any native SPL token. In theory, Umbra can have hundreds of shielded pools such that you can swap to any asset privately, you can even make Bitcoin private via a WBTC shielded pool. Umbra can make any token private Additionally, the Umbra SDK can be implemented into any native Solana project, giving Umbra privacy to anything in the Solana ecosystem. There are multiple projects that have already integrated the SDK, and many more in the pipeline Though a key difference between the two, and why I would give Umbra a distinct edge over many competitors, is the relationship between the token $Umbra and the underlying business IP. Through ownership governance, investors have direct utility into the Umbra IP, you hold ownership in the business, can make decisions with tokens, and have a direct relationship with the team. This is not a gas-token, nor is it an emissions-token, this is a pure utility driven token that has direct exposure to the underlying business > Revenue from the wallet is distributed to the Umbra IP >> Revenue from any project using the Umbra SDK is distributed to the Umbra IP With ZK / MPC hybrid setup, Umbra is the most pure form of privacy on Solana, with multiple available revenue streams, with an ownership-token structure that directly benefits token holders Higher

People mocked privacy for years until they realized control over your own data is no longer optional. The shift is already happening, and no amount of noise changes where the future is headed.

Arthur Hayes stated that privacy with money is “extremely necessary” as surveillance by big technology, government, and AI increases. For this reason, he made Zcash his second-largest investment.
