Europe is quietly building a new settlement rail for tokenized assets. 🏦

The Eurosystem has launched Pontes, allowing banks to settle tokenized securities using central-bank money.

The system connects distributed-ledger platforms with existing TARGET settlement infrastructure. Deutsche Bank, Santander, Société Générale and the European Investment Bank are among the institutions that have completed onboarding, alongside several DLT operators.

At the same time, the ECB has started preparing to invest a small portion of its own funds in tokenized securities, with those purchases expected to settle through Pontes.

Why does this matter for crypto?

Tokenization needs more than blockchain technology — it also needs reliable settlement infrastructure and liquidity. Pontes could help connect traditional financial markets with DLT-based assets.

For traders, the key question is adoption. The ECB says full implementation is targeted for 2028, while live transaction activity will show whether institutions actually use the system at scale.

Could tokenized securities become a major bridge between traditional finance and blockchain?

Understanding Open Interest in Crypto Futures

Open interest is a core concept in futures trading, yet many traders treat it as a crystal ball that predicts market direction. The Trading Turtle curriculum clarifies that open interest simply measures the number or value of derivative contracts that remain open - contracts that have not been settled or closed. This metric tells us how much capital is still engaged in the market, but it does not, on its own, indicate whether the prevailing sentiment is bullish or bearish.

What Open Interest Measures

- Definition: Open interest counts outstanding contracts, whether they are long or short. Every futures contract has two sides, so a rise in open interest means that both buyers and sellers have added positions, not that one side dominates.

- Participation Indicator: An increasing open interest signals that more participants are entering the market, expanding liquidity. Conversely, a decreasing figure suggests that traders are exiting, which can precede reduced volatility.

Why Open Interest Alone Is Not a Directional Signal

The curriculum stresses that because each contract has a counterpart, the metric cannot reveal intent. A surge in open interest could stem from:

1. Speculative Entry - New traders taking positions on either side, hoping to profit from future price moves.

2. Hedging Activity - Existing market participants adding offsetting contracts to protect other exposures.

3. Arbitrage- Traders opening positions to exploit price discrepancies between spot and futures markets.

Without additional context, you cannot tell which of these drivers dominates.

Integrating Open Interest With Other Data

To extract actionable insight, combine open interest with:

- Price Action: If price rises while open interest climbs, it may indicate that new buyers are entering the rally. If price falls alongside rising open interest, sellers could be adding positions, or hedgers might be protecting downside risk.

- Volume: High volume confirms that the increase in open interest reflects genuine trading activity rather than a few large blocks.

- Funding Rates: In perpetual futures, funding rates show which side is paying the other to maintain price parity with the spot market. Positive funding often signals that longs are paying shorts, hinting at bullish pressure, but this is still a cost, not a directional guarantee.

Practical Example From the Lesson

Imagine open interest jumps from 10,000 contracts to 15,000 while the price of Bitcoin stays near $30,000. The increase tells you that 5,000 additional contracts are now alive, but it does not tell you whether the market expects the price to rise or fall. The lesson advises treating the observation of open interest and price as separate data points, then asking what remains unknown when you combine them.

Common Pitfalls

- Assuming Direction: Believing that a rise in open interest automatically means bullish pressure is a misconception.

- Ignoring Counterparties: Forgetting that each contract has an opposite side leads to over‑interpreting the metric.

- Isolating the Metric: Using open interest without price, volume, or funding context can produce misleading conclusions.

Takeaway

Open interest is a valuable gauge of market participation and liquidity, but it must be interpreted in a broader analytical framework. By looking at price trends, trade volume, and funding rates together, you can form a more nuanced view of market dynamics without jumping to premature directional bets.

Conclusion

The Trading Turtle lesson on open interest reminds us that the metric is an observation rather than a prediction. Treat it as a piece of the puzzle, not the whole picture. When you separate what you can measure (open interest, price, volume) from what remains unknown (future direction), you build a more disciplined trading approach.

🚨 **Solana Transactions Just Got 3.3× Larger. The Interesting Part Isn’t TPS.**

Solana Transaction V1 is now live on mainnet.

Maximum transaction size increased from:

**1,232 bytes → 4,096 bytes**

That’s **3.3× more room** inside a single transaction.

But this isn't a 3.3× TPS upgrade.

The real change is what developers can **fit into one transaction**.

Think:

→ Bigger ZK proofs

→ Complex multisig

→ BLS signatures

→ Privacy-focused transfers

→ More advanced institutional workflows

That extra capacity can also allow multiple steps to be bundled into **one atomic transaction**.

Instead of several transactions coordinating a complicated operation, more of it can potentially happen together.

That means fewer dependencies — and potentially fewer points of failure.

**BUT V1 DOESN’T KILL v0 + ALT. 👀**

For transactions involving very large numbers of accounts, **v0 + Address Lookup Tables** can still be more space-efficient.

So this isn't a replacement.

It's another option.

And now comes the infrastructure test.

Wallets, RPC providers and indexers need to correctly handle the new transaction format.

Because the worst failure isn't always an obvious crash.

Sometimes it’s **data that looks fine but is incomplete or wrong.**

🧠 **Bottom line**

Solana didn't simply make transactions bigger.

It expanded the design space for applications that previously had trouble fitting everything into one transaction.

Now developers have to prove the extra capacity actually matters to users.

SEC Addresses 24-Hour Trading and Blockchain Transfer Rules:

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is examining continuous market operations.

The regulator published an official agenda for its 24-trading roundtable to evaluate round-the-clock U.S. equity trading.

In tandem with the roundtable announcement, the SEC proposed a new transfer-agent rule that directly incorporates blockchain implications for asset tracking.

Concept: Managing online financial transactions usually requires trusting centralized entities like banks or credit card processors, which introduces intermediaries, added costs, and structural complexity.

A distributed ledger offers an alternative network structure where no single company, country, or third party exercises central control over the record.

Mechanism: Instead of relying on a central institution, an open peer-to-peer network running open-source software maintains the shared balance sheet. Users receive a public key to receive funds and use a private key to digitally sign transfers.

The global network continuously checks and verifies every transaction, grouping data into chronological blocks added to a growing chain. Participants who contribute computing power to maintain and secure this public ledger receive small amounts of digital currency.

Example: When transferring Bitcoin ($BTC ), the decentralized network constantly verifies transaction history to solve the double-spending problem without needing a bank. Every transaction is permanently published, allowing anyone to review the open-source code and inspect the public ledger. Limitation: As network activity grows, the database expands significantly, which can lead to slower transaction times and higher network fees alongside ongoing regulatory uncertainty.

I’ve been reading more about how AI is changing the crypto space, and one thing that caught my attention is how AI agents will actually handle payments on their own. That’s where $AEON started to make sense to me. A dedicated settlement layer could become an important part of making AI-powered transactions secure and efficient.

It’s not only about faster payments or lower costs. As AI becomes more capable, the infrastructure behind those transactions will matter even more. Projects focusing on this area could have a big role in the future.

I’m still learning more about $AEON, but I think it’s an interesting project worth watching. It’ll be exciting to see how it develops as the AI and blockchain industries continue to grow.
