It temporarily lets drivers use tax-free dyed diesel on highways and postpones the federal diesel tax on that fuel until the end of the year, with no interest or penalties. Dyed diesel is chemically similar to standard highway diesel but marked with red dye for off-road uses like farming and construction; expanding its on-road access effectively cuts costs by about 24 cents per gallon by bypassing the standard federal tax. G7 countries had just agreed to release up to 100 million barrels of emergency diesel stocks after pressure from Trump, who had considered but then dropped a U.S. diesel export ban.

Paramount executives have discussed asking Elon Musk (@elonmusk) to join a syndicate of equity investors as the company prepares to close its ~$111 billion Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition. Paramount settled antitrust suits with 12 states and the WGA on September 21 and David Ellison has said he expects the deal to close in about two weeks. Larry Ellison has personally guaranteed tens of billions in equity, and Middle Eastern sovereign funds are already participating. Adding another large investor would spread that exposure. Larry Ellison’s earlier $1 billion investment in Musk’s 2022 X purchase and his prior Tesla board seat are the documented personal ties that make the idea plausible. Whether Paramount actually reaches out to Musk, or whether Musk invests, remains unknown.
JUST IN: The committee published the report ''How Jack Smith and the Biden-Harris Department of Justice Disregarded the Separation of Powers to Spy on their Political Opposition'', after releasing transcribed interviews of five former Jack Smith prosecutors and a former DOJ OIG agent on September 22. The report is a Republican staff product drawing on documents, emails, and testimony obtained in the 119th Congress. It describes the FBI’s “Arctic Frost” investigation into 2020 election-related matters and the later Special Counsel probe. Investigators obtained telephone toll records for at least 17 Republican members of Congress, including then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan. They also obtained the content of text messages involving 44 members of Congress. These were secured through subpoenas to telecom providers accompanied by gag/nondisclosure orders so the members would not be notified. Internal discussions with DOJ’s Public Integrity Section flagged Speech or Debate Clause concerns. PIN still approved the requests, noting limited “litigation risk” because the gag orders would keep members from learning about or challenging the subpoenas in court. Smith’s team later reviewed some of the congressional texts without the filter-team screening that DOJ policy required for potentially privileged material. Brigitte Stegemann, 83, a German-born Christian grandmother known to her family as “GG” or “Oma,” lived at The Pearl long-term care home in Cannifton, near Belleville, Ontario. She had stage 4 stomach cancer, diagnosed about five months before her death. Her granddaughter, Brigitte Kranendonk, had been her caregiver for years and held power of attorney for personal care. They say she died with blood on her after a botched IV, her hands folded as if she were praying. Canada’s MAiD program is legal medical assistance in dying. The law requires the person to be eligible, capable of deciding, and to give clear, voluntary consent, including a final confirmation before the drugs are given. The family says Stegemann had already refused MAiD because of her faith. They say she wanted a natural death. After a port was placed, they allege she tore at it and said she did not want “the death shot.” Two days before the procedure, Kranendonk says she asked her grandmother, in plain language, if she knew she was going to die on Friday. She says Stegemann broke down, cried for a long time, and repeated that she had made a mistake.
