Never underestimate the destructive power of a Bear Market. What is happening to Turkey’s BIST All Shares-100 (XTUMY) should serve as a warning to every investor. We are talking about a traditional stock market index representing approximately 481 Turkish companies that has lost more than 54% of its value in local currency after years of appreciation. This is not an altcoin. This is not a speculative token. This is a traditional equity market index. And what happened behind the scenes is even more revealing: a liquidity crisis, investment funds heavily concentrated in illiquid stocks, massive redemptions, and forced liquidations. More than $20 billion in investment funds were affected by liquidation orders. It took years to build that appreciation. Just months were enough to wipe out much of it. This is one of the most important lessons of financial cycles: liquidity fuels euphoria, but it can disappear precisely when everyone needs it most. As for the S&P 500, I do not expect a collapse of the same speed or magnitude. We are talking about a market with significantly greater liquidity, much larger companies, and a fundamentally different structure. However, I remain convinced of one thing: A significant S&P 500 Bear Market before the end of this decade looks almost inevitable to me. I am not predicting a collapse similar to Turkey's. I am simply pointing out that no market rises forever, and even the world's most established indices experience painful contraction cycles. Markets can take years to reward optimism and just months to punish excessive confidence. Never confuse a prolonged bull market with the absence of risk. Data > Narratives.
