$NVDA, $GOOGL and Emerald AI launched the AI Energy Management Alliance today. 18 founding members, including Anthropic, $NRG, $AES, $NGG and $DLR. The trade is simple. Data centers commit to cutting their draw when the grid is stressed, and in exchange they get a faster and larger interconnection. US grid utilization runs around 50% on average. New data center connections wait more than 10 years. Flexible load could unlock up to 100 GW on the system already built. $GOOGL already has about 1 GW of demand response across its portfolio. Emerald AI, $DLR and $NVDA are building a 100 MW power flexible AI factory in Virginia. The alliance is asking regulators for performance based interconnection standards and cost allocation that credits flexibility instead of treating every new load the same. Power has been harder to get than chips for two years now.
