Ripple Launches XRPL Lending Protocol: Testnet Now Open for Developers

Ripple has introduced the XRPL Lending Protocol, a significant step toward bringing institutional grade credit infrastructure directly onto the XRP Ledger. The protocol enables on chain fixed term loans using pooled liquidity from single asset vaults. It keeps credit decisions and underwriting off chain with trusted institutions while handling loan execution, servicing, and repayment automatically on the ledger. This hybrid approach aims to make digital assets more productive without relying on overcollateralization or complex smart contracts.

Developers and infrastructure providers can now access the testnet, also referred to as devnet, to start integrating and experimenting with the new features. Built around proposals XLS 65 and XLS 66, the protocol supports straightforward borrowing against tokenized assets for uses like short term financing. It remains subject to validator approval before any potential mainnet deployment. Early testing will help shape how on chain credit markets develop on XRPL.

This launch reflects Ripple's focus on expanding real world utility for the XRP Ledger beyond payments into broader financial applications. By standardizing lending at the protocol level, it could attract more institutional participation and unlock new opportunities for liquidity management. The community and developers are encouraged to explore the tools now available and provide feedback as the protocol evolves.
