🏦 THE STABLECOIN WARS: COINBASE OPENS THE DOOR TO RIPPLE'S RLUSD
November 1, 2026 | Stablecoin Intelligence
The competition for digital dollars is entering a new phase.
On October 28, Coinbase and Ripple announced the launch of RLUSD across Coinbase's retail and institutional platforms.
This is more than another stablecoin listing.
🌐 WHAT CHANGED?
✅ RLUSD is available through Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Exchange and the Coinbase app.
✅ Deposits and withdrawals support XRP Ledger, Ethereum and Base.
✅ USD-to-RLUSD conversion is available at a 1:1 rate for eligible customers.
✅ Ripple will provide liquidity on Base.
⏳ RLUSD collateral support on Coinbase Global Exchange is planned for a later stage.
💰 WHY DOES IT MATTER?
RLUSD has grown beyond $2.5 billion in market capitalization, according to Reuters' October 28 report.
Meanwhile, Coinbase is expanding its stablecoin lineup beyond USDC, with additional options including RLUSD and PYUSD.
The competition is increasingly about:
🔹 Institutional payments and settlement
🔹 Liquidity across blockchain networks
🔹 Custody, transparency and compliance
🔹 Integration with exchanges and financial services
⚠️ RLUSD IS NOT XRP
RLUSD is designed to track the US dollar. XRP is a separate, market-priced cryptoasset.
Greater adoption of RLUSD does not automatically translate into higher XRP prices.
💡 THE BIGGER PICTURE
The next stablecoin winner may not be determined by market capitalization alone.
Distribution, real transaction demand, redemption reliability and institutional integration could matter even more.
💬 What will define the next stablecoin leader: liquidity, regulation or real-world payments?
