The biggest XPL risk may arrive before traders even see the real effect.
On September 25, Plasma is scheduled to unlock about 1.76 billion XPL.
That is roughly 17.6% of the total 10B supply, but the more important number is its relationship with the existing float: the unlock equals about 63.2% of the current circulating supply.
What makes this easy to underestimate is the recipient mix.
Tokenomics data shows roughly 47.5% goes to private investors and 47.5% to insiders, with the remainder going to the community.
That doesn't mean those tokens will immediately hit exchanges. An unlock creates permission to sell, not an obligation to sell.
But it changes the market's liquidity structure overnight.
There is another signal worth watching: previous monthly XPL unlocks were followed by negative 14-day price moves in several instances, although that history does not prove the unlock caused the decline.
The real trade-off is therefore simple:
Plasma needs a growing ecosystem to absorb a rapidly expanding liquid supply.
The technology can keep progressing while the token faces a completely different problem.
That distinction is what traders should be watching.$XPL #Kelp disputes LayerZero exploit blame
