Zcash NU7 Upgrade to Permanently Lock $16M in Sprout Pool ZEC
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the Zcash NU7 network upgrade is expected to take effect around 9:30 PM Eastern Time on November 5, rendering approximately 12,226 ZEC from the 2016 Sprout privacy pool permanently unspendable—equivalent to about $16 million at $1,300 per ZEC. Holders have only hours left to complete their migration. Last week, around 10,000 ZEC were urgently transferred out of the Sprout pool; by Wednesday, the migration volume had dropped to approximately 40 ZEC. This upgrade will phase out outdated transaction formats to reduce complexity and security risks, and will shorten block times from 75 seconds to a target of 25 seconds. The remaining locked ZEC will still be counted in the total supply, but whether access can be restored remains uncertain.
