Everyone is discussing the reasons for the Republicans' heavy defeat in this midterm election. From a personal perspective, the most critical reason was the war initiated against Iran at the end of February. Had Trump not rashly attacked Iran and killed Khamenei, one can imagine what his situation would be now: U.S. inflation might not have rebounded (public sentiment certainly wouldn’t have boiled over), and the Fed wouldn’t have raised interest rates; he wouldn’t have been trapped in a passive position in the Middle East; he could have extracted maximum benefits from tariffs on all countries except China; he could have captured Maduro and firmly controlled Latin America as his backyard, further securing Greenland and dominating the Western Hemisphere. Meanwhile, AI would still be thriving, allowing Trump to refocus more energy on domestic affairs, potentially improving the livelihoods of Americans. But the war with Iran shattered all of this. I wonder if Trump is now silently cursing, “Netanyahu has betrayed me.”
