Apple just brought its AI to China — two years late, and on someone else's terms. Apple Intelligence began its long-delayed trial rollout for Chinese users today, powered in part by Alibaba's Qwen alongside Apple's own basic AI features. The delay was regulatory: Google and OpenAI models are not available in China, and Apple only secured approval in July. The first release includes 18 features, from live call translation to message summaries — but not the latest Siri upgrade. Public access is due in December. Bitcoin trades near $77,800 while the world's biggest phone market finally gets Apple's AI — built on a local model, under local rules. The AI race is no longer just about the best model. It is about whose model is allowed in.
