Uptober just broke its own tradition. Bitcoin closed October at $77.6K, down 7.2%. It makes it the third red October since 2016, the second consecutive one, and the worst October performance in a decade. The contrast with historical data is striking, 7 of the past 10 Octobers were green, with a median return of +10.7%. The strongest was October 2017 at +47.6%. This year, the market went in the opposite direction. There’s another detail, BTC is down 11.5% year to date, despite gaining 42.6% in Q3. A strong quarter clearly hasn’t translated into a sustained upward trend. We do believe that this October is a reminder that even the strongest seasonal patterns are never guaranteed. Bitcoin’s next moves will depend on market conditions, not the calendar.
