@Starknet is preparing for the era of quantum computers. As quantum computers advance, the elliptic curve cryptography currently used in blockchains may become vulnerable, according to @KaitoAI. Thanks to Account Abstraction, Starknet can change account signing methods without requiring a hard fork. Using the replace class feature, it’s even possible to upgrade to quantum-resistant signing methods while preserving existing accounts. Accounts implementing Falcon 512 are already operational. However, since Starknet is currently an Ethereum L2, solving account security alone isn’t sufficient. That’s why Starknet is also researching a transition to an independent L1—aiming to independently handle consensus, data availability, and bridges without relying on Ethereum. Of course, a transition to an independent L1 has not been finalized. Personally, I believe what matters more than when quantum computers will be commercially deployed is how much preparation we can complete before then. We’ll have to see how far Starknet can go in its preparations.
