There's a certain romance to DeFi that charts and APRs will never capture. And after almost 10 years in crypto, I'm feeling it more than ever. You discover a protocol. Spend hundreds of hours figuring out how it works. Eventually, something clicks. You start using it, invest your own capital, maybe even lock your tokens for years. And sometimes, years later, that decision opens a completely unexpected door. Take my veAERO airdrop. Years ago, when crypto markets were getting hammered and confidence was running low, I bought VELO and locked it into veVELO for four years. Making that kind of long-term commitment in such an uncertain market felt like a real leap of faith. 😅 But I believed in what the team was building. Fast-forward, and that leap of faith earned me a veAERO airdrop. I later kept accumulating through DCA. Then came Aerodrome, Base, new liquidity markets, new mechanisms, new strategies. I remember getting excited about Base early on, too. And the rabbit hole just kept getting deeper. Curve was another incredible journey. At first, it looked ridiculously complicated. Pools, gauges, voting power, locks, incentives... I genuinely wondered how anyone could understand all this stuff. But I kept digging. Eventually, Curve clicked. Then I discovered Convex. Then another layer of strategies, voting markets and cash-flow mechanisms. One discovery led to another. And here's the beautiful part: sometimes an airdrop isn't even the biggest reward. Sometimes it's simply the reason you discover a technology you might otherwise have completely missed. That's exactly what's happening to me again with Monolith and SwanDAO. I already knew Inverse Finance, DOLA and FiRM, but hadn't explored everything in depth. Then I learned that vlCVX and veCRV holders could qualify for a SWAN airdrop. Think about that. Years ago, I put in the work to understand Curve and Convex, accumulated those positions and committed capital long-term. And now those old decisions are introducing me to an entirely new ecosystem. So I started digging again. Bought around 1,000 swanUSD, staked it, started farming SWAN, then staked SWAN to earn more swanUSD. And now there's a proposal to use sSwanUSD as collateral on FiRM, opening up even more borrowing strategies and risks to study. But what really grabbed my attention was Monolith itself. A platform where people can launch their own collateral-backed stablecoins and build DAO economies around them. Imagine where that can lead. And eventually, AI agents helping operate portfolios, funds, onchain companies and DAOs. Another whole universe of things to learn. That's how this journey works for me. A protocol leads to a strategy. A strategy leads to another ecosystem. An old lock leads to an airdrop. An airdrop leads to a new technology. And every time I come back to a subject, I understand a little more than I did before. I love writing about these discoveries in simple words. Partly for the people reading, but also for myself. If I can explain something clearly, it means I've probably learned something real. Hundreds of experiments. Thousands of hours. Endless conversations with fellow DeFi nerds and AI. Not just chasing tokens. Learning how these financial machines actually work. And honestly, I love every minute of it. One step at a time. One discovery opening the door to the next. 🌱
