Bitcoin is coming of age. At least, in terms of age, it certainly is. Eighteen years ago, Satoshi Nakamoto published the Bitcoin whitepaper, aiming to create a decentralized electronic payment system that allows people to transfer funds directly to one another without relying on banks. Eighteen years later, BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF has reached $66 billion in assets, and dozens of public companies have added Bitcoin to their balance sheets. Traditional financial institutions that once sought to bypass Bitcoin are now its supporters. The decentralized ideal has arrived on Wall Street—but how many more 18 years do we still need?
