OpenAI reversed its decision to cut ChatGPT Pro usage limits the day before it was set to take effect—and instead doubled the limits. Users paying $200 per month for ChatGPT were set to have reduced usage starting tomorrow. Now, no one loses anything; those previously on the lower limit have been upgraded to the higher one—at the same price. Early this morning, users asked Tibo, who oversees Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI, what the likelihood was of canceling the cut. He replied, “Low, but not zero.” About 13 hours later, he himself announced that the cut was canceled and that limits have been doubled—effective immediately. The usage limits for Work and Codex, OpenAI’s AI programming agent, have doubled for both the $100 and $500 Pro plans. Existing subscribers received the increase automatically, without waiting for renewal, and the Business Premium plan for enterprises has also doubled. The price remains unchanged—only the limit has increased. For those who spend their days programming with AI, usage limits had effectively become the real cost—and OpenAI has just delivered a discount to its heaviest users. The email notifying users of the planned cut went out at the end of September. A month later, Tibo said the reversal came directly from user feedback. Users on the Plus plan remain unaffected; this upgrade applies only to those paying $100 or more. Fear of losing users to competitors?
