BAYC IP launches Solana-based cards; next, see if collectors become players. Mudwater integrates physical, digital collectibles, and gaming into a single product initiative. ① On October 18 (Beijing Time), Yuga Labs introduced Mudwater: a physical and digital card project centered on the BAYC IP, with digital assets built on Solana. The announcement mentioned 120 artwork pieces and a release design of 10,000 boxes, each containing 24 packs. ② What’s noteworthy here is how an existing IP organizes new collectible and gaming experiences—but this does not imply a migration of existing BAYC NFTs or ApeCoin as a whole. Selecting a network for a single product is distinct from migrating an entire ecosystem. ③ The physical-to-digital conversion mechanism described in the product materials has yet to be launched. The cards used in current game demos are not equivalent to all on-chain cards held by players being fully integrated into gameplay. ④ Fees must be analyzed separately: the 2.5% reflection mentioned in the materials and the separately listed 2.5% royalty cannot be combined and misinterpreted as a total transaction cost of only 2.5%. Collectibles also carry risks of low trading volume and difficulty exiting positions. My own view: An IP can attract initial attention, but sustained engagement depends on content and gameplay. I’ll closely track delivery progress, replayability, and actual player retention to determine whether this hype can transform into a genuinely enjoyable, repeat-play product.
