At age 17, Trenton Johnston, a 20-year-old Canadian man, began impersonating customer support to steal cryptocurrency. In March, he stole 185 bitcoins, currently worth approximately $14.78 million, and immediately shared his screen to demonstrate his technique. His lavish lifestyle included purchasing luxury cars, renting private jets, and spending at nightclubs. He was eventually arrested in Miami after being pulled over for speeding in a Rolls-Royce Cullinan; his accomplice then revealed that his funds came from stolen cryptocurrency, leading to his swift capture. A federal court in Miami recently sentenced him to 25 months in prison, followed by deportation to Canada.
