Don’t go, folks—good news is here! Bloomberg says Marvell is in advanced negotiations to acquire Lumentum, with an announcement possibly as soon as next week. After the news broke, Lumentum’s stock ($LITE) surged as much as 17% in after-hours trading, while Marvell’s stock ($MRVL) dropped 7%. Why? As AI data centers keep growing, the bottleneck has shifted from GPUs to how to connect servers within racks—and Lumentum specializes in lasers and optical components. By acquiring Lumentum, Marvell would secure control over the optical interconnect supply chain. But Lumentum’s market cap is around $83 billion, while Marvell’s is just over $220 billion—so this deal would likely involve issuing stock. Marvell, can you digest such a big bite?
