The September Lesson and the Bear Trap Guys, this is what I am seeing on the charts right now, what happened back in September, and what I am watching for next. 1. What Happened in Early September: The Ceiling That Won't Budge Look at what happened between September 10th and September 22nd on the Tether Dominance (USDT.D) chart. When Tether Dominance rises, it means investors are selling their crypto and parking in cash. Back then, cash dominance was pushing up. The price was climbing, momentum (RSI) was rising, and the volatility bands were squeezing tight. To anyone looking at it on the surface, it looked ready to blast off. But look at where it stopped: it slammed directly into the 200-day moving average and the key moving average ceilings, got rejected hard, and crashed straight down into late September. That drop released trapped cash back into the crypto market. 2. The Psychology: Why Traders Fall Into the "Bear Trap" Right now, the chart is painting a very similar picture. The volatility bands are pinching again, cash dominance has drifted upward to around 6.88%, and momentum is rising. Here is the psychological trap at play: In a bull market, retail traders get conditioned to buy every single dip because it worked every time. Eventually, they buy the final top and get trapped. In a bear market, the exact opposite happens. Traders who made money shorting every bounce for 18 months get conditioned to think that shorting every pop is free money. They get cocky, they come in late, and they forget that markets never move in a straight line. When an asset hits a major historical wall, those late, over-confident positions become the fuel for a violent squeeze in the opposite direction. 3. What I Am Watching For Right Now Just like September, this upward push in cash dominance is running directly into heavy overhead resistance: The Resistance Shelf: Right above where we sit is the upper band and the September peak near 7.06%. Farther above that sits the 200-day moving average ceiling at 7.64%. The Test: Over the next 48 to 72 hours, with all the heavy economic data hitting the wire, cash dominance may try to push into that 7.06% resistance zone. The Confirmation: If price spikes into that ceiling and gets rejected—falling back under the moving averages—it will confirm that this cash run has topped out, just like it did in September. That rejection is what will unlock trapped cash, trigger the squeeze on late bears, and push the broader crypto market out of its falling channels.
