Steve Lucas, CEO of enterprise software company Boomi, revealed that half of their accounts payable is now directly reviewed and processed by AI, though critical steps still involve human oversight. While many large companies constantly talk about AI transformation, few have deployed AI to handle as much as 50% of operations in high-stakes, low-error-tolerance domains like finance. Lucas emphasized that simply telling employees to use AI more is ineffective; models must be embedded directly into specific business processes. Boomi’s annual recurring revenue is now on track to reach $1 billion, yet the company’s workload has actually increased. On average, large enterprises run over 350 productivity software systems; as AI lowers the barrier to coding, enterprise software adoption will surge—not decline—and integrating these disparate systems has become a vast untapped opportunity. Many worry that AI will eliminate jobs, but Lucas believes each leap in productivity generates ten times more new work—not job loss. Instead of speculating about when general AI will disrupt the world, the real value lies in diligently and accurately reviewing ledgers and expense reports—this is where tangible computational value is delivered.
