Faster payments can still face the same barriers. The 'Beyond Speed: Building Trusted Interoperability in the Future of Cross-Border Payment' report identifies three sources of friction in cross-border finance: 1. Operational differences. Domestic infrastructures have different operating hours, capabilities, and settlement processes. 2. Fragmented data. Inconsistent information and messaging standards complicate screening, reconciliation and reporting. 3. Regulatory differences. Legal classifications and compliance requirements vary across jurisdictions. Improving the payment experience means addressing all three. Systems need to exchange useful information, align operationally, and support trust across borders. That is why interoperability is a foundation for adoption at scale.
