Gold can be manufactured. Bitcoin can be upgraded. Neither statement settles the investment debate. Marathon Fusion’s research models mercury-to-gold production using neutrons from nuclear fusion. The physics deserves attention. The commercial questions are cost, scale, purification and operating reliability. Even a successful laboratory experiment does not establish a profitable industrial supply chain. Gold’s scarcity premium would face pressure if substantial additional supply became economically viable. Bitcoin faces a different challenge. A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could threaten the digital signatures used to authorise spending. That is different from simply “breaking SHA-256.” Published estimates of the computing resources required are not demonstrations of successful quantum attacks. Bitcoin’s advantage is that its software can evolve. The challenge is coordinating a secure transition across the network, wallets, exchanges and users—and deciding how to handle old, unmigrated coins. Available cryptographic solutions still need testing, deployment and adoption. My view: gold faces a potential supply risk. Bitcoin faces a security and migration risk. Neither automatically implies an inevitable collapse. The evidence I want to see: Gold: independently verified output, purity, operating duration and full production costs. Bitcoin: tested protection, credible migration arrangements and actual deployment. A green candle does not erase a vulnerability. A red candle does not prove one.
