Crypto wanted to eliminate friction and middlemen. The P2P dream. Now wallets like MetaMask and Phantom are more complex than five years ago, packed with misleading sub-products (stablecoins, perps, partners, in-wallet ads) and higher fees than ever. Though I’m not a rabat-joie, this is what most of the market wants: Sunday gamblers eager to lose money (with fees) trading oil while consulting Grok and scrolling X. In contrast, it’s nice to see people locked in on real priorities like privacy, accessibility, and censorship resistance.
