When people hear 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟭, the first thing that usually comes to mind is a blockchain that processes transactions and runs smart contracts. Bitcoin has its L1. Ethereum has its L1. Tezos has its L1. But trust me, it's more than just a place to send tokens or deploy applications. Take @tezos, for example. ➘ Its Layer 1 is where bakers participate in consensus, XTZ holders can stake their tokens, and the community can influence the protocol through on-chain governance. ➘ It's also where smart contracts execute directly on the blockchain, while the underlying protocol provides the foundation for scaling through technologies like Smart Rollups and the Data Availability Layer. These aren't separate features with no connection to each other. They form part of the infrastructure that allows Tezos to operate, evolve, and support applications while maintaining a focus on decentralization and security. And that's what makes this interesting. ➘ 𝗔 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟭 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲. Which brings me to a question worth exploring: ➘ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗲𝘇𝗼𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟭? Because understanding that role is essential to understanding how Tezos continues to evolve.
