Verona Didn't Start With a Token. It Started With Customers. Most crypto projects launch a token and then look for a use case. Verona (formerly XION) says it went the other way. According to Verona's manifesto, the network grew out of Burnt, a company that sells enterprise verification. Businesses that need to know what's true pay for it. The network was then built around those paying customers. The product in one line: prove a fact once, reuse it anywhere, and expose none of the underlying data. Zero-knowledge proofs make that possible, and AI agents can act on the verified facts users authorize. The numbers Verona reports: 70M+ verified interactions across 5M users. About 4 years of settling payments in USDC across projects on its infrastructure. $36M raised to date from backers including Animoca Brands, Multicoin Capital and HashKey Capital. verUSD launched September 28 with $100M+ in commitments, with over $60M in contracted payment volume. Why it matters for agents: an AI agent that can verify data and pay for it on the same network doesn't need a patchwork of third-party services. Verona now has both pieces: verification and a settlement asset (verUSD). The honest caveat: these are company-reported figures, and the real test is whether verUSD volume and ero usage keep growing.
