The man named Alexander Wang has arrived: Meta releases Muse Spark Open, an open-weight model—free to download and commercially usable. To run it locally, you’ll need two Mac Studios with 512GB of RAM each, budgeting $10,000. On October 15, Meta released Muse Spark Open, making its model weights directly downloadable for free under the Muse Model License, including for commercial use. Meta calls it “the strongest open-weight model ever released in the U.S.” Since the Muse series launched, the flagship models—Muse Spark and Muse Wonder, released three days ago—were only accessible via Meta’s products and APIs; only the smaller Muse Glimmer had open weights. This is the first time Meta has released open weights for a large-scale Muse model. The model contains a total of 816 billion parameters, but only 42 billion are activated per token (MoE architecture), enabling fast computation—though the entire model must still fit into memory. It supports a context length of 1 million tokens, processing text, images, video, and audio, and outputs text, with a primary focus on code generation and enabling AI to operate autonomously over extended periods.
