sam altman just said one line that split the ai world in half. in his vanity fair interview, he said there is "a coming tidal wave of cybersecurity problems" from open source models, and he still supports them. → some people in the industry want open source banned so systems stop getting hacked → altman says a ban would cost too much liberty → his view is that society will have to accept some fairly severe cyber incidents in exchange so the man running openai is defending open models and warning us about them in the same breath. honest question: would you take more freedom with more hacks, or tighter control with fewer of them?
