McDonald’s got a lot pricier over the last decade. One study says 10 popular menu items rose roughly 100% from 2014 to 2024. That turns a quick stop into a very different receipt. Shareholders, though, have been eating well. Over about the same period, McDonald’s sent nearly $40 BILLION back to owners through dividends. And yet the stock is down around 20% over the past year. That tension is what makes MCD fascinating. Customers see $5 fries and $10+ meals. Investors see a global franchise network, a massive real-estate platform, and a brand that has spent decades turning burgers into recurring cash flow. The menu got more expensive. But historically, owning a slice of the Golden Arches has been a very different game than standing in line to buy lunch.
