Polygon Labs achieved over 11 million verified payment updates per second across 25 independent hubs in testing of its agent pay system for blockchain-based micropayments. The system uses the x402 protocol to enable AI agents to autonomously pay for services like API calls and data feeds through offchain payment channels that batch settle on Polygon's blockchain. Performance tests showed 40,000 end-to-end payments per second through the full payment stack, with processing costs estimated at just $0.15 for one billion payment updates.
