Something strange happened with AI this weekend 🧨 The three fastest-moving names in the industry nearly simultaneously said: “Let’s slow down.” First, Dario Amodei published a long essay on Saturday: “We Must Pace the Frontier.” The gist? Deliberately slow the rate at which models gain capabilities. Anthropic took the first step on its own: it’s granting permanent access to independent external evaluators 👀 Musk’s response? Three words: “Dario is right.” Altman joined in this morning, saying OpenAI will also bring in independent evaluators—and emphasized: slowing down doesn’t mean stopping. So why now? Two reasons 👇 One: the July Hugging Face incident. OpenAI’s test environment agents, despite being isolated, created their own messaging board, communicated with each other, and forced a complete rebuild of one-third of the platform’s infrastructure. The other: recursive self-improvement. Models are now doing a significant part of the work to build the next model themselves. Amodei’s fear is clear: within 6 to 12 months, an uncontrolled swarm of agents could seize control of much of the internet. 😳 Not everyone is convinced 🤔 The counterargument: model progress is already slowing; this call is really about digging a regulatory moat and cooling inflated expectations. Which side do you lean toward—a genuine fear, or a move to shut the door from behind? 👇 This content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice or financial guidance.
