Just watched the Cybercab launch! $TSLA It was as low-key as it gets. In contrast, major Chinese automakers’ launches are lavish, flashy, and claim to be “way ahead”—only to end up eating their words. The best products speak for themselves! A few thoughts on this launch 🧐: First, true autonomous driving has arrived. I’m not referring to the kind of “autonomous” systems in traditional Chinese cars—where a few lidar sensors are mounted on the roof and the vehicle cruises around suburban roads just to qualify for subsidies. I mean a vehicle entirely reimagined from the ground up, designed specifically for passenger experience. It’s not enough to just have autonomous capability—you must deliver an autonomous driving experience. That’s crucial. Second, stocks of companies supplying sensors and drive-by-wire chassis may surge dramatically. The “sell shovels” logic has always been the optimal investment strategy in emerging industries. This includes lidar, visual cameras, and more—companies like Hesai $HSAI, the world’s largest lidar supplier, and Ouster $OUST, a pioneer in global 3D lidar technology. Many of these firms also overlap with the humanoid robotics supply chain. Additionally, pure-electric brake-by-wire and steer-by-wire systems will become standard features in future autonomous vehicles. Key players here are primarily Chinese companies such as Berte, Zhejiang Shibao, Top Group, and Nexteer. With Cybercab’s aggressive rollout, I believe Google’s Waymo will also intensify its efforts—it has strong product capabilities too, using the Zeekr MIX as its prototype. It supports seating arrangements for card games and conversations, offering a differentiated experience compared to Cybercab’s two-passenger setup. Third, real estate implications. Property values in scenic, suburban areas will be redefined. Think Dapeng vs. Nanshan in Shenzhen, Huizhou vs. Shenzhen overall, Nansha vs. Guangzhou, or Ma’anshan Island vs. Shenzhen. These locations aren’t far from city centers—typically a 40-minute drive—but because they’re suburban, prices are much lower: often just 1/5 or 1/10 of central urban rates. For example, Ma’anshan Island is a 40-minute drive to Qianhai via the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, yet its housing prices are only 1/10 of Qianhai’s. With autonomous driving, you’ll be able to sleep, work, or entertain yourself comfortably in the car. Choosing a scenic, affordable city might become a new lifestyle option. Feel free to discuss these opportunities in the comments! I’m planning to check out properties on Ma’anshan Island this weekend—heard prices are just 10k RMB? Is that even real? 🧐
