The first time someone at @Starbucks remembered my order, I completely underestimated how nice it would feel. I walked up ready to order. Before I could speak: “The usual?” I actually looked behind me first. “Me?” The barista smiled. “Yes, you.” That tiny interaction made me laugh because I hadn’t realized I’d been coming often enough to become “the usual” person. Then came the dangerous part. I had walked in planning to try something completely different. Now changing my order felt strangely disrespectful. My brain: Be adventurous. Also my brain: This person remembered you. Do not destroy what you’ve built. So obviously I got the usual. 😂 It’s such a small thing, but being remembered somewhere changes the whole feeling of the place. You stop feeling like order number 46. You start feeling familiar. And honestly, those little human interactions are often what I remember about Starbucks more than the exact drink. There should probably be a name for the moment a barista knows your order before you say it. Achievement unlocked: predictable customer. ☕️
