Treasury Buybacks Signal Easing: Dollar Sub-99 as BTC Rallies Toward $70K
The fundamental driver behind Bitcoin’s violent breakout is a liquidity pivot orchestrated by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
By expanding its long-term Treasury buyback program—doubling operation sizes from $2 billion to $4 billion across 10- to 30-year maturities—the Treasury directly targeted systemic bond market illiquidity. The market reaction was swift: the 30-year Treasury yield dropped nearly 10 basis points to approximately 5.19%, while the 10-year yield fell to 4.64%. Stripped of yield support, the U.S. Dollar Index broke beneath the key 99 level, sending spot gold surging over 4% intraday.
For Bitcoin, this environment represents a macro setup. As sovereign yield appeals erode and fiat purchasing power faces renewed dilution, BTC’s value proposition as a fixed-supply, non-sovereign hedge shines. Bitcoin rapidly broke through its stubborn $64,000–$65,000 consolidation range, advancing past $68,000 and testing the $70,000 psychological barrier.
This rally is grounded in macro easing rather than pure speculative froth. If BTC establishes a structural floor between $68,000 and $69,000, the broader market will likely transition into a sustained price-discovery phase backed by expanding global liquidity.
