Are privacy coins on the move again? $ZEC $XMR

Privacy coins are breaking out again, and this time there's real on-chain adoption data behind the move, not just a narrative. Monero just ripped 7.34% in a single 4-hour candle, and Zcash is holding near multi-week highs after its own sharp recovery; both are moving while plenty of the broader altcoin market stays stuck in choppy ranges.

1. #Monero ($XMR)

$XMR trades at $407, up a massive 7.34% on the day after tagging $419.44 intraday, with strong bullish MACD and RSI readings. However, the RSI is stretched and deeply overbought on the 4H timeframe, indicating that the spike was a fast one.

$XMR has actually been showing signs of this pump since early July, and today's candle is a decisive breakout above the consolidation that had built through late July and early August. But looking at the RSI, a sharp flush down is expected before another massive leg up.

2. #Zcash ($ZEC)

$ZEC is back above $500 and actually reached $528 before it started retracing; it was a sharp multi-week recovery that pushed the RSI up much more quickly. Actually, $ZEC had bottomed near $455 in late July and has rallied hard since then to reclaim the $520 zone that had capped it since early July.

The fundamental case behind both moves is the same, which is the growing surveillance pressure that is turning privacy from an ideological talking point into something people are actually paying for. Also, the regulatory tightening in Europe, including the AMLA rollout and phased MiCA implementation, along with new DAC8 data-sharing rules, has sharpened scrutiny around transaction traceability, and both Zcash and Monero have benefited as users move funds into genuinely private channels. CoinDesk Research data shows roughly 28% of Zcash's total supply now sits in shielded addresses, with more than a third of all transactions touching that private layer.
