One of the quieter design choices in distributed systems is deciding which chain becomes the source of truth when two different settlement processes temporarily disagree

Aave V4 only accepts ERC-20 assets, yet Trustless Bitcoin Vaults make native BTC borrowing possible without turning Bitcoin into another transferable wrapper. The bridge isn't a liquid token. It's vaultBTC, an internal accounting asset whose transfers are intentionally restricted. It exists so Ethereum can recognize collateral ownership while the actual BTC never leaves Bitcoin

That part feels surprisingly clean

The part I keep returning to is everything that happens after the accounting entry is created

If vaultBTC is only a representation of a Bitcoin position, then the critical dependency is no longer liquidity. It's whether every state transition can remain synchronized with Bitcoin settlement while execution continues on another chain

Custody becomes less of the problem. Coordination becomes more of it

Maybe that's why I think less about ERC-20 compatibility now and more about the operators responsible for maintaining consistent finality assumptions. Finality Providers aren't simply forwarding Bitcoin security. They're the coordination layer keeping two very different settlement rhythms coherent while Bitcoin continues finalizing on its own schedule

Coordination isn't sustained by cryptography alone. It also depends on whether the operators preserving consistent finality continue finding it economically rational to do so as demand for Bitcoin-backed security grows

I don't think TBV introduces another bridge risk

I'm less certain it eliminates trust entirely

It may simply relocate part of that trust from custody toward synchronization, and I still don't know who absorbs the operational cost if coordination capacity begins lagging behind demand before Bitcoin itself reaches final settlement
