Russia Extends Crypto Mining Ban in Moscow Region Through 2032

Russia has approved a long term ban on cryptocurrency mining across Moscow and several other regions, tightening restrictions on energy intensive mining operations.

Key points:

• The ban takes effect on Aug. 15, 2026, and will remain in force until Dec. 31, 2032.

• Mining will be prohibited in Moscow, Moscow Oblast, and eight districts of Kursk Oblast, including the city of Lgov.

• The restrictions apply to individual miners as well as participants in mining pools and related mining activities.

• The decree was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and published on Russia's official legal information portal.
