The Bond Market Is Sending a Warning Signal Investors Shouldn't Ignore
While most investors focus on stocks and crypto, the bond market may be telling the bigger story. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield climbed to around 4.71%, its highest level since 2007, while the 30-year Treasury yield moved above 5%. These are levels the market hasn't consistently seen since before the global financial crisis.
Why does this matter?
Treasury yields represent the cost of borrowing across the economy. When they rise, mortgages become more expensive, businesses face higher financing costs, and investors can earn better returns from relatively safe government bonds.
That's often bad news for risk assets.
Part of the recent jump comes from persistent inflation concerns, elevated oil prices, and expectations that interest rates could remain "higher for longer." Investors are also demanding higher returns as U.S. government debt approaches $39 trillion.
For crypto investors, rising bond yields are worth watching. They don't always push Bitcoin lower, but they reduce overall market liquidity and can make speculative assets less attractive in the short term.
Sometimes, the biggest crypto signal isn't coming from crypto at all.
