Dormant Bitminter-Linked Wallet Moves 829 BTC After Eight Years of Silence

Some coins just woke up after nearly a decade of sleep. A Bitcoin address associated with the founder of BitMinter, one of the earliest Bitcoin mining pools, moved 829 BTC on-chain, some of which being moved for the first time in eight years.

Based on the current price of about $64,011 per BTC as of July 30, 2026, the value of the transferred stack is about $53 million at these rates.

BitMinter itself was a pioneering mining pool that was launched in 2011 and used to account for around 1% of all bitcoins in circulation until 2020, when it went offline.

This type of activity is usually done in a dormant wallet, and it usually attracts a lot of attention.

If the coins that you've been holding since Bitcoin's low-value days suddenly start to move, it could be a sign that you're consolidating for safety, you're looking to sell, or just making the leap to new wallet systems.

The transfer comes as part of a larger trend with dormant addresses being revived this year.

On-chain data from blockchain analytics platforms shows that both wallets have seen activity in recent weeks, with one wallet moving 5,908 BTC and the other 2,931 BTC, following eight years of inactivity.

Not all dormancy is a precursor to sales on a wallet. There is a general sense of separating internal transfers to newly created self-custodied addresses from direct deposits to exchange wallets, as the latter is traditionally linked to press at a shorter time horizon.

There is no confirmation of the destination of the BitMinter linked funds as an exchange address in this case.

One of the more closely monitored groups among crypto's early miners is the set of people that purchased coins for pennies early.

Each significant move brings the same old issue of supply and demand from the early days of Bitcoin back into focus.

Do you think early miner wallets waking up should worry current holders, or is this just noise in a $1.28 trillion market?
