Worldcoin Foundation's $52.5M Locked Raise
World Foundation, the charity of director Sam Altman, just raised $52.5 million, and for a year following, tokens are not collectibles that can be physically held.
The raise, announced on July 24, 2026, was led by Pantera Capital and included Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings (OTCQX: EHTK), Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto, also known as Nasdaq-listed crypto trading firm Eight Capital.
The Foundation believes the structure of all WLD purchases in the round indicates that it has a long-term investment horizon and not a short-term flippers' market.
It comes at a time when World's network has been launched for three years. The money raised will go toward the iris-scan identity system project called World ID, which will be expanded on enterprise platforms, consumer apps and ever more AI agents that require a means to validate a user is human.
Context matters here. WLD currently trades in the $0.35 to $0.38 range, roughly 97% below its March 2024 all-time high near $11.74. It's a year-long hold, and the token is far removed from its peak -- a solid prediction that institutional investors feel the lows are behind them.
The situation is even more dire than before because of the overwhelming amount of AI-generated content on the internet.
The Foundation attributes the infrastructure thesis to enterprise integration and a new World ID 4.0 release, which is designed to enable large-scale deployment, apart from the daily trading of the token.
The institutional lockups like this are a red flag to be observed, but not a red flag to be assumed. A 12-month term is a wager on utility, not price action, but as supply becomes unlocked, so too will these buyers be.
And that's something all WLD holders need to monitor going forward.
This is not financial advice. Check the lock-up schedules and token unlock calendars before hiring.
Is this a 12-month lock-up for real conviction or simply waiting to see a bear market? Let us know.
