Two pieces of news today both relate to AI infrastructure. First, Nebius (NBIS): After hours, the stock surged nearly 19%. The reason: NVIDIA disclosed via an SEC Form 13G that it holds approximately 9.3% of Nebius—22.25 million shares of Class A common stock, including warrants tied to its $2 billion strategic investment in March this year. NVIDIA didn’t invest casually. Its investment in Nebius targets AI cloud infrastructure—the kind that helps large enterprises build large-scale computing platforms. This isn’t a financial investment; it’s a supply chain alignment. NVDA and AMD also rose in tandem, signaling clear market sentiment: capital spending on AI infrastructure is still flowing strongly. // Now, Supermicro (SMCI): Its stock also jumped after hours. Preliminary earnings showed Q4 revenue near the lower end of guidance—not spectacular. But two figures stood out: Gross margin jumped to 15–17%, up from prior guidance of 8.2–8.4%—more than doubling. Why? The customer and product mix are improving. The proportion of high-margin AI server orders is rising. New orders surpassed $60 billion, a record high. Backlog equals five times the expected revenue for the current quarter. What does $60 billion mean? Even if it landed zero new orders, its existing backlog would sustain operations for over a year. // Viewed together, these two developments point to one conclusion: AI compute demand isn’t cooling—it’s accelerating. NVIDIA’s direct equity stake in a cloud infrastructure provider signals its belief that downstream demand is both substantial and durable enough to warrant long-term equity-based partnerships. Supermicro’s order surge confirms that actual AI server procurement is materializing—not just hype. I’ve long argued that AI investment is shifting from chips to infrastructure—power, data centers, servers. Today’s news adds further validation. Short-term volatility in these stocks will remain high—don’t chase highs. But the medium- to long-term direction is becoming increasingly clear. This is purely personal observation; data should be verified with official sources. Not investment advice. #NVDA #AI #USStocks
