Depending in which state you live in, make sure you pay income and capital gains on your crypto. If you owe Federal taxes and have state income taxes, you likely owe state income and local income taxes depending where you llive. Some states do not levy any income tax or capital gains tax at all, while others tax capital gains as regular income, and a few provide special deductions or credits for certain types of capital gains. Eight states do not tax income or capital gains: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington (except on large capital gains), Wyoming, and Tennessee. New Hampshire does not tax earned income or most capital gains, but it may tax interest and dividends, though this is scheduled to be repealed. Most states with an income tax treat capital gains as ordinary income, so capital gains are taxed at the state's income tax rate. Each individual's state tax liability for income and capital gains can differ drastically depending on residency, unique exclusions, and deductions. It's best to check with your tax advisor or your state incomet tax instructions to make sure you owe crypto taxes in your state as well.
