Donald Trump is getting his own $1 coin.

Not a meme coin. An actual coin.

The U.S. Mint has officially started production of a new $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump, unveiled by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent as part of America's 250th anniversary celebrations.

Here's what's interesting:

🪙 The design:

The front features Trump's portrait alongside 'LIBERTY,' 'IN GOD WE TRUST,' and 1776–2026.

The reverse keeps things traditional with the Great Seal eagle and a special 250 anniversary emblem.

Despite all the headlines calling it a 'gold coin,' it's simply a gold-colored $1 coin, not made from precious metal.

⚖️ How did this happen?

U.S. law generally keeps living people off currency. But officials found a legal opening in the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020. The restriction applies to one side of commemorative coins, leaving enough room to make this design possible.

🎨 Not every idea made the cut. Early concepts reportedly included Trump's famous 'Fight, Fight, Fight' slogan from the 2024 campaign trail. Those were ultimately dropped in favor of a more traditional presidential portrait.
